Sedation Dentistry: What to Expect at the First Appointment

It’s a huge step, an admirable step, toward getting a handle on your oral health. I’m Dr. Jamie DeFinnis, an IV sedation dentist in Back Mountain, PA, and I want to help you understand what you can expect at your first sedation dentistry appointment in my office. Basically, we’ll get to know each other. You can check me out by asking questions – any questions you like.

Let’s start with the most ideal time to schedule your visit. Generally, are you a morning person, or do you feel more comfortable in the afternoon? Schedule you’re appointment for the time of day when you feel most content and confident.

When you arrive, one of our friendly front desk associates will welcome you, sign you in, and help you with paperwork, if necessary. Feel free to look around, watch television, read a magazine, or work on your computer. We have wi-fi, as well as a complimentary beverage bar to keep your mind and body occupied.

I’ll come out to greet you, and we’ll sit down in my comfortable, homey office to talk about your goals and concerns. I want to learn how my team and I can make you feel comfortable, confident, and well cared for.

There are three types of sedation patients. One profile can get X-rays and cleanings, but does not like the drill. Another can get X-rays, but wants nothing in their mouth. The third profile is the patient who cannot tolerate anything in his or her mouth. Knowing which type of patient you are will help me determine how to customize your visit. It will also influence what happens during your first visit. I certainly will not subject you to X-rays or a cleaning if it would make you uncomfortable.

There ARE treatment options that will work for you. At your first visit, I will do what’s right for you. Together, we’ll decide what that entails.

Call Back Mountain Dental today at 570-763-4360, or email me, to reserve a convenient time for us to talk. You deserve a strong, healthy, beautiful smile, and I want to help you get it.
